Kid Connection Connect
AUGUST 2007

Welcome to Connect, the monthly e-newsletter for those who minister to children in small Sunday schools, midweek programs, and new church plants.

Ready, Set, GO!

First impressions are important. No matter how SMALL you are, you can use the following ideas to give your kids, community, families, and teachers a BIG first impression of Kid Connection.

Connect with your kids. Set a positive tone by playing music from the Kid Connection CD while setting up your KC program each week, and be sure it’s playing as kids enter the large group area. Get your kids some Kid Connection tattoos for kick-off day—and encourage teachers to wear their tattoos as kids come in!

Connect with your community. Click here to download the Kid Connection logo. Make some copies of the logo, cut around the Kid Connection characters, and link them together along a wall that runs from the front door of your church to the large group teaching area. Or print a logo to look at as you paint the image onto a long sheet of mural paper. Hang your banner up in a prominent place at church to let everyone know that something exciting is happening! (One church we know of hangs a banner outside of the church to let neighborhood kids know they’re invited too!) Tip: If you’d like a cool sign that will last all year long, look into having a printer turn the logo into a laminated banner.

Connect with your parents. Let families know about the new FREE Family Magazine that’s about to come their way. Insert an interesting ad into your church bulletin—use the following copy or make up your own:

“JEALOUS that Junior gets a Sunday school take-home paper while you get nothing? LOOKING for a do-able family devotion and some practical parenting ideas? STOP going GREEN and LOOK no further! GUESS WHAT!  is a FREE Family Magazine that will help you connect with your kids as you connect the Bible to your daily life. Your first issue arrives on ________________.”

You could also create a cool coupon like this and pop it into each family’s mailbox:

Coupon

This gift certificate entitles your FAMILY to one FREE issue of GUESS WHAT! Family Magazine EVERY MONTH! Each issue is packed with games, jokes, Bible stories, cool crafts, simple recipes, and a FUN family calendar. But wait—there’s more! You’ll also find a do-able devotion and a practical PARENTING page! Your first issue arrives on ______________.

Connect as a team. Get together and nail down some details. Use this checklist to stay on track:

  • Be sure each leader has a Leader’s Guide so they can become familiar with curriculum and start looking at their lessons. Tip: Treat your leaders to a Kid Connection tote bag or fridge magnet!
  • Plan your process for creating reproducible pages. Tip: The simplest option is to provide each leader with a copy of the CD so they can print off the materials they choose to use.
  • Decide how families will receive the Guess What! Family Magazine. If you’re ordering one per student you could send them home with each child. However, if you’re ordering one per family you may prefer to place them into church mailboxes or send them in the mail like a magazine subscription! Determine the best way to get the magazines to your families and be sure to have a few extra on hand for families who may be checking out your church!
  • E-mail each leader the following link http://www.kidconnectiononline.org/connect/index.asp so they can sign up and receive KC Connect once a month too. And let them know that coming soon, Kid Connection will have weekly tips that each leader can listen to for the lesson they’ll be teaching that week!
  • Download a copy of the workshop “Introducing Kid Connectionhere and host a fun, one-hour training session.

Wondering about Christmas and Easter?

We encourage you to use the Christmas and Easter units of Walk With Me along with each year of Kid Connection for creative and meaningful ways to celebrate these special seasons with your church school kids. These two-session units include the same large group/small group format you love in KC, with all the ideas, dramas, and music you’ll need to present a Christmas or Easter program!
